Graceworks Housing Services: Grace Lutheran Community Awarded Two Grants

Grace Lutheran Community, located in Greensburg, Indiana, was awarded two grants from the Decatur County Community Foundation and the Agriculture Field of Interest Fund. A total of $1435.75 was awarded to the community to purchase handicap accessible raised plant beds to allow all of the residents to enjoy summer gardening. In addition to the grants, Jeff Hermesch, director of the Purdue University Extension Office, assisted staff with planning and acquiring the grants.

It only took a day and a half for Jeff and three senior 4-H members (Brooke Siefert, Jacob Hornberger and Troy Hornberger) to assemble and prepare the beds for planting. Debbie Robbins, site manager of Grace Lutheran Community, said “We are thrilled with the end result and the hard work Jeff and these wonderful teenagers put forth in this project. Our residents are looking forward to maintaining the beds and harvesting vegetables for a special pitch-in meal!”
