Graceworks Housing Services: St. James Community Resident Volunteers at Local School

Ed Murphy, resident of St. James Community in Scottsburg, Indiana, is a member of Elevation Church. Recently, the church was asked to volunteer at the local elementary school as they were hosting a Donuts with Dad program. Some of the teachers and staff at the school knew there were going to be children without a father figure to attend, so they reached out to the church for volunteers. Ed volunteered and enjoyed his breakfast with the young man he was paired with. The school has since contacted Ed to see if he would be interested in returning to the school and mentoring the young man from the program. Ed volunteers at the school three times a week and both agree that their time together is enjoyable and has made an impact on both of their lives.
